Terms of Service

Last updated: 29 July 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of The Statistician website and its subscription services. Please read them carefully before using the site.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using The Statistician website (statistician.news), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

The Service

The Statistician is an independent data journalism publication providing data-driven analysis, commentary, and reporting. We offer free access to a limited number of articles, with full access available to paid subscribers.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time, with or without notice.

Free Access

Non-subscribers may read one article in full per browser session before encountering the paywall. This limit is tracked using your browser's localStorage and applies to the current device and browser only. Creating a free account does not extend this limit — a paid subscription is required for unlimited access. Non-subscribers who read free articles will see advertisements served by Google AdSense.

Subscription Plans

We offer two paid subscription tiers, both billed monthly:

  • The Mean — €4 per month. Grants full, unlimited access to all published articles. Advertising is shown.
  • The Outlier — €7 per month. Grants full, unlimited access to all published articles with no advertising shown.

Subscriptions are personal and non-transferable. Prices are shown inclusive of any applicable VAT where required by law.

Billing and Cancellation

Subscriptions renew automatically at the start of each billing period using the payment method on file. You may cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; access continues until then.

We do not issue refunds for partial billing periods. Subscribers in the European Union have the right to withdraw from a new digital subscription within 14 days of purchase, except where access to paywalled content has already been used following explicit consent to immediate delivery.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store card details on our servers.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use The Statistician to:

  • Violate any applicable law or regulation.
  • Infringe the intellectual property rights of The Statistician or any third party.
  • Circumvent the paywall by any means, including sharing account credentials.
  • Systematically scrape, copy, or redistribute site content.
  • Transmit spam, malware, or any harmful or deceptive content.
  • Interfere with the technical operation of the site or its infrastructure.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms without prior notice.
